Roma Gene Greathouse, 89, of Harrisburg, Nebraska passed away October 6th at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska.Her funeral service will be held October 10th, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Interment will be for family members at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.Roma Gene was born on August 11, 1925 in Kimball, Nebraska to Fred Leroy and Carrie Myrtle (Cross) Johnson. The family lived in Harrisburg until 1932 when they moved to Diamond E Ranch on Pumpkin Creek in Banner County. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1943. She attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln and graduated with a degree in teaching. She belonged to the Beta Tau Chapter Delta Zeta Sorority while at Wesleyan. She taught school at District 42 in a one-room school house in Banner County. She married Nile Kempton Greathouse on August 11, 1946, at her parent’s home on Diamond E Ranch.Roma belonged to Wildcat Community Club and Toastmistresses. She was President of PTA at Harrisburg School and President of Banner County Chapter of WIFE. She served 17 years in the Family History Center for the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as well as other church positions.She liked to read, especially poetry, ride horses, sew, cook, and put jigsaw puzzles together. She enjoyed fishing on the bridge on Pumpkin Creek as a child, and loved walking along it’s banks as an adult. Roma drew pictures of birds and animals using colored pencils, and knitted 50 plus years to the delight of her family and friends. She collected over 100 statues and pictures of teddy bears. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Nile.
