Mrs. Rose A. Hofer, 75, of 2137 1/2 Ninth Street, Rock Island, pioneer community resident, died at 12:08 this morning in her home. She had been ill since January 13 and was bedfast most of the last two weeks.
Miss Rose Nowack was born Jan. 4, 1865, in South Rock Island and was once employed for about two years at the old cotton mill on the banks of Rock River, just east of Ninth street. She was married to William Hofer in Rock Island on Nov. 20, 1884. Mr. Hofer died in 1933. Mrs. Hofer was a member of the Evangelical Church of Peace and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Surviving are two sons, Harry W. of Rock Island and William J. of Davenport; two daughters, Miss Blanche B. Hofer of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Walter Albery of Rock Island; a brother, John Nowack of Rock Island; and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Shafer of Rock Island and Mrs. Augustana Chatfield of Wamego, Kas. The body was taken to Hodgson mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Monday afternoon at the mortuary. The Rev. Frederick J. Rolf, pastor of Evangelical Church of Peace, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Daughter, Mae Albery born 13 Nov 1887 in Rock Island and died 16 Apr 1969 in Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband Walter Albery who she married in Rock Island in Aug 1916 died 5 March 1955 in Los Angeles, Calif.
