First Sergeant Jacob C. Brake, of the 6th West Virginia Infantry, was captured 12 Sept 1863 at Centerville, WV and sent to Andersonville Prison, where he died 06 May 1864.

He left behind his wife, Nancy A. (Curry) Brake and four children: Medora Ella, Sarah E., Asby, and Everett C.

Jacob was the son of James and Anna Mumford Brake.
