Mr. L. J. Hughes, aged 58 years, of Lewisetta, was taken with acute indigestion at 10 o'clock Tuesday night, dying several hours later. Mr. Hughes was a prominent church member and Mason, was a man of sunny and bright disposition and was highly esteemed. A widow, three sons and one daughter survives, One son Graham is with the American forces in France. Interment at Melrose church yesterday afternoon. Mr Hughes had charge of the beacon lights on Coan and Yeocomico river and was also the mail contractor from Lancaster to Coan. The death of this good man is a great loss to the community at large.

He was the father of Harry Jacob, Carrie V., Thomas Holland, and Charles Graham Hughes.
He was the son of Holland H. Hughes and Drusilla Winstead Hughes.
