He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was then employed for fifty years as a machinist at Parks and Woolsons in Springfield, VT.
He was married for seventy years to Viola Beverly (LaClair) Shepard.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was predeceased by his wife and five brothers, Raymond Shepard, Wayne Shepard, Wendal Shepard, Wilford Shepard, and Ernest Shepard. He was also predeceased by four sisters, Madelain Willis, Lillian Shepard, Theda MacGillivray, and Olive Lunderville.
He is survived by two sons, Robert A. Shepard, Jr. and his wife, Diane, Springfield, VT; Gary Shepard and his wife, Robin, Pigeon Forge, TN; five daughters, Juan Earle, Manchester, NH; Priscilla Caron and her husband, Howard, Lempster, NH; Donna Shepard, Goshen, NH; Karen Shepard, Springfield, VT; Barbara Shepard, Claremont, NH; three sisters, Shirley LaPlante, Ruthe Schultz and June Zweeres, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Debbie Shepard, Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside committal services for both Robert and his wife Viola Beverly, who died on December 19, 2013 will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Springfield, VT.
