KEARNEY - Barbara M. (Hedges) Burke, 79, of Kearney, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Meadowlark Manor in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Barb was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Arnold to Adolphus H. and Leona (Backes) Norgard.

She grew up in Central City and spent 24 years there during her marriage to Dale Hedges. To this union were born four daughters.

Barb moved to California in 1983 and married Myron Burke. While in California, Barb worked for the Sacramento City School District for 19 years as a preschool para-educator for special needs children. Barb retired in 2003 and after her husband, Myron, passed away, moved back to Nebraska to be near her family.

Survivors include four daughters, Melanie Riblett of Omaha, Marcy (Randy) Fousek of Kearney, Kay (Doug) Grosshans of Plattsmouth and Kelly (Kirk) Melson of Kearney; a sister, Pauline Nissen of Aurora; and 10 grandchildren.

Other survivors include four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Marceil, at age 6, Bonnie Carlson, Pat Stuart, Dorothy Brown and Shirley Martin; one brother, Robert Norgard; her husband, Ron Burke of Sacramento, Calif.; and one grandchild, Kevin Riblett Jr.
