Carlos Gonzalez Obituary

Carlos M. Gonzalez, a resident of Clarksville, Tenn., died tragically while proudly serving his country on Friday, March 16, 2006 in Tikrit, Iraq. He was 22 years old.


The son of Carlos and Anna Miranda Gonzalez, he was born May 23, 1983 in Passaic, N.J. 


Carlos moved to the area 11 years ago and graduated Minisink Valley High School in 2001. He was a member of the ROTC during all four years of high school. After graduation, he studied at Military College in Valley Forge, PA focusing on communications. 


A family statement reads: "Carlos was a happy young man who was always smiling. He was a forgiving person who could never hold a grudge. He enjoyed what he was doing and felt that joining the Army was the best thing he could do for his career and his family."


Carlos was a member of the 501st STB (Special Troop Battalion); he felt that all of the members were truly "special."


Besides his beloved wife, Kristina and cherished daughter Isabella Maria Gonzalez, both at home, he is survived by his loving parents of Middletown, he is survived by his his brother, Alex; his mother and father-in-law Kenneth and Elizabeth Oliver; grandparents Alejandrina Gildemeister, Victor Gonzalez and Ana Rosa Miranda grandparents-in-law Peter and Frances Hartman and Susan Camus; and many friends and relatives. 


Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown. 


Burial will follow with full military honors in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey.  On Jan 3, 2014 Cpl Gonzalez was interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

Amanda N. Pinson.
