Emily Sue was born in Sweetwater, Texas, to the late Russell Edward Kidd and Bessie Lorene Parmer Kidd. She grew up in Fisher County, Texas, and graduated from McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, in 1945. Sue was married to Col. Joe L. Kethley. Moving to Waco from Abilene in 1965, she taught in Waco I.S.D., and then worked for 20 years in the special collections department in the public library where she helped patrons research their family histories. Sue was a member of historical societies of D.A.R., War 1812, D.R.T., and First Families of Texas. She was a member of First Methodist, then Austin Ave. Methodist Church. She expressed gratefulness to God for a long and fulfilled life with a wonderful family and lovely friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Joe Lynn Kethley, on July 3, 1982.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Joe L. Kethley, of Abilene, and Jay D. Kethley of Baytown; daughter, Diane Kethley Walter of Tyler; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Edward Kidd, Jr., of Greensboro, North Carolina; other relatives and many friends.
