Mrs. Stella Davis

Mrs. Stella Davis, 86, of Williamsburg Nursing Home, died Sunday, April 23, 1972 at 6:00 a.m. following a long illness.

Her funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Methodist Church, with Dr. Frank D. Charlton, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by Chris Diebel , minister of the First Christian Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Elliott's Funeral Home. There will be Eastern Star graveside rites.

Mrs. Davis was born Stella Campbell on June 29, 1885, in Parker County. She was the daughter of Dr. William M. Campbell and Annie Adams Campbell. Her father was a prominent Weatherford physician for whom the Campbell Memorial Hospital there was named.

She married Rayburn Eugene Davis at Weatherford on December 21, 1910, and moved to Abilene from Baird in January of 1911. She taught art in Baird for several years prior to her marriage. Mr. Davis preceded her in death in 1942 and a son, Gaines N. Davis, died in 1972.

She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 30. At the time of her death she was a member of the Cora Posey Chapter of the OEO,

Survivors include one son and his wife, W. J. "Dub" and Maetta Davis of 2918 South Willis; two sisters: Mrs. John Todd and Mrs. Jack Porter, both of Houston; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Price Campbell of 2800 Ivanhoe; a daughter-iin-law, Mrs. Gaines Davis of Lamesa; and four grandchildren: Dell I. Davis of Conroe, Rodney D. Davis of Lamesa, Janet Ruth Davis of Abilene, and Rayburn Erwin Davis of Abilene. Pallbearers will be D.C. Cox, J.E. Funk, James Dominy, Joe Russey, A.A. Watson, and Robert Gaines.
