William Lorenzo, son of John and Sarah Alice Short Deegan, was born April 2, 1883 at Milford, Ill., and died June 8, 1950 at Corvallis, Ore., at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 6 days.
At the age of one year he moved with his parents to Haddam, Kan., later moving to Mahaska where he grew to manhood. He attended and took active part in the Sunday School and church services at the G. P. Church. He attended college at Holton for two years, returning to Mahaska.
On December 24, 1905 Mr. Deegan was united in marriage to Lena Edwards and one son was born them. They moved to Fairbury, Neb., in February, 1923, where he was employed by the Rock Island Shops until 1936. On August 23, 1947 he went to Corvallis, Ore., making this his home.
Survivors of Mr. Deegan include his wife; Don, Deegan, his son; Edna Griffin of Kansas City and Lula Dragoo of Mahaska, his sisters; Earl Deegan of Mahaska and Jack Deegan of Santa Ana, Cal., his brothers; Bird Short of Lincoln, Neb., and uncle; Clara Reeder of California, and aunt; and nephews and nieces.
He made his peace with God and burial was at Memorial cemetery at Corvallis, Ore.
