Benjimen J. Boomgaarden, 92, of Vermillion, SD passed away Tuesday, September 30 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Ben was born July 26, 1922 in Holland, MN to William and Susan (Lamfers) Boomgaarden. He attended school in Minnesota and was a part time farmer as he grew up. He served in the Army during WWII and married Mary Thompson on January 20, 1952 in Vermillion. He had worked for the city of Vermillion water department for 19 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dennis, three brothers; Jake, Ralph and William Jr. and two sisters; Angi Giffrow and Amanda Rysdam. He is survived by his wife Mary of Vermillion, two daughters: Sandra (Joe) Kyte of Burbank, SD, Mary (John) Jordt of Vermillion, two sons: Larry Boomgaarden (Alyce Iverson) of Vermillion and Robert (Deb) Boomgaarden of Fulda, MN. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and ten step great grandchildrern.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, October 6 at the First Baptist Church in Vermillion with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion.
