Charlie "Fat" Andis was known for his sense of humor and musical ability. He was a great banjo player and grew up playing music non-professionally with Ramona Riggins, the wife of Grandpa Jones of Grand Ole' Opry fame. His mother was put in an institution when he was eight years old and his paternal grandmother raised both Charlie and his sister, Wilma. Charlie was a veteran of WWII and was in the Seabees, a branch of the Navy that built roads and construction, often going in before the infantry to clear the way. While in New Guinea, he contracted Yellow Fever while on the Malaria control. He was a coal miner in later years and was injured in a hunting accident that caused him to be paralyzed the last 17 years of his life. Charlie was a talented artist, writer and musician.
