Islo D. Ashmore, Jr., born February 1, 1936, danced his way into Heaven on October 1, 2014. He was the oldest child of Islo D. Ashmore, Sr. and Cecil Mae Hicks. He was born and raised in Oklahoma City with his two sisters, Carol and Nancy. Islo graduated from Classen High School in 1954. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in Europe until 1956, spending the majority of his time in Wertheim, Germany as a radio operator. After leaving the Army, he attended the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University. He subsequently joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he remained until retiring after some 35 years of service. He married Cynthia Marie Scott on August 23, 1957. They had three children; Sheri (Art), Winn (Carol) and Stacy (John). To these three were born Islo and Cynthia's grandchildren: Justin (Alana), Mitchel (Andrea), Trent, David, Abby and Garrett. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren; Brylee, Easton and Camden. He was also blessed with three step-children, six step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild, as well as many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and Cynthia, his loving wife of 50 years. Islo's favorite pastime was dancing at VFW Post 12, and that is where he met his precious wife, Nelda, with whom he spent the last four years living life to the fullest. Islo grew up attending Wesley United Methodist Church and continued growing closer to his Savior while attending Crossings Community Church with Nelda at his side. Islo will be remembered for his love of family, his charm, his wit, his unabashed opinions, and his ability to fix most anything, a talent he shared with anyone who asked. Viewing will be held at Guardian West Funeral Home, 5820 NW 41st Street, on Sunday, October 5th, from 2 to 4pm. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 6th in the Chapel at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
