Son of:
Michael Dan Adams Jr (1918–2001)
and Nora Evelyn Cordall (1920–2001)

Captain Adams was a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard of the U.S. on active duty. The 188th was activated in January 1968, I believe, and they deployed to Vietnam in June.

Mike officially began his tour on June 4, 1968. He had completed 11 months of his tour when he was shot down over Laos, in the vicinity of Ban Nathom Mai, 40 miles west of the De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) between North Vietnam and the Republic of Vietnam.

The 188th lost 4 F-100s; two were shot down and one pilot rescued. In January 1969, Colonel (then Major) Bobby Gene Neeld and Captain (then 1Lt) Mitchell Sim Lane were diverted by weather from Tuy Hoa and were never seen again. They think it was a mid air collision of F-100C tail number 54-2030 and tail number 54-2051 22 miles NNE of Phan Rang Air Base.

Captain Adams was the first New Mexico National Guard fighter pilot officially reported killed in action. Prior to his death his squadron was already scheduled to come home on May 20, 1969.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, Michael was a 1961 graduate of Sandia High School.

He was survived by his mother, Nora E. (1920-2001) and father, Michael D. Adams, Jr. (1918-2001), of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was also survived by his brother, James Patrick Adams.

Capt Adams was buried in Santa Fe National Cemetery, New Mexico as are his parents (father was a World War II Navy Veteran).
