Dr. John Yancey grew up in Eliasville and graduated from Eliasville High School. he paid all his expenses in getting a medical degree. For three years, he served as a non-commissioned officer in the Medical Corps with a US Army hospital in Washington, DC and Fort Robinson, Nebraska. He completed his course and was the honor graduate and valedictorian of the class of 1909 in the medical department of Fort Worth University. In 1909, he began the practice of medicine in Fort Worth. For two years, he was an instructor in the Fort Worth Medical College. In World War I, he trained Red Cross nurses. He was a member of the Tarrant County and Texas Medical Societies. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
