Mary F. DeLong was born at North Kortright, N. Y., June 8, 1845, and died at the home of her daughter at Gilman, Ia., March 28, 1926 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 20 days. She had been in failing health all winter.
Mary Frances Hendry was the eldest daughter of David B. and Maria A. Hendry. After high school she attended Geneseo university and later a ladies’ seminary in New York City, after which she taught school for several years. She was united in marriage with Gibson Wallace DeLong at North Kortright, N. Y., February 24, 1867, coming at once to Iowa and settling at the DeLong homestead at Butlerville, where she continued to reside until three years ago when failing health forced her to live with her daughters.
At various times in the pioneer days she organized several Sunday schools, serving as superintendent and teacher. Mrs. DeLong issuvived by her daughter, Mrs. C. S. Dunkle.
