Linda Katz Hammerman, 66, of Cheshire, CT passed away on October 1, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. Linda was the daughter of Morton H. Katz of Enfield, CT and the late Alice Mark Katz. She is survived by her loving husband Rob and their loving son, Jeremy. She is also survived by her sister, Annette, and husband Jack Levine of West Hartford, CT, and nieces Alison Levine Minde and Jennifer Levine Brogadir and their husbands. Also surviving are Robs brother, David Hammerman, his wife, Sylvia, and their sons, Aaron and Sam; and Lindas step sister Betsey Wolfson and step brother Lewis Wolfson. Her stepmother, Dorothy B. Katz, predeceased her. Linda grew up in Springfield, MA; she attended public schools and graduated from Classical High School in 1965. She graduated from Boston University in 1969 with a degree in Education. She and Rob met while they lived in San Francisco. Linda worked at several positions in city and state social service organizations in San Francisco, Stamford, CT and Waterbury, CT. In her most recent position, she served as Chief Probation Officer for the Court Support Services, in the Connecticut Judicial Department. Lindas dedication and conscientiousness were evident to everyone with whom she worked. Linda always enjoyed spending time outdoors, either hiking, biking, or camping in northern California, or walking local trails when she lived in Connecticut. She loved being near the ocean, especially on family vacations at Cape Cod. Throughout her life she enjoyed music; she was also an avid reader. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. The funeral will take place at 12 noon on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 44 Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA, with burial afterward at the Sinai Temple Memorial Park. Following the interment, the family will be receiving friends at the Hammerman residence, with a Shiva service at 7 pm Sunday. Please see the funeral homes website for additional details at ascherzimmerman.com. Donations may be made to Cheshire Parks and Recreation Gift Fund at 559 South Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 to fund a park bench in memory of Linda Hammerman; or to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven (giveclosertofree.org).
