Harold Edward Stevens, 64, died at 6:10 AM today [Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1984] in Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis, where he had been a patient for a week, following illness since Dec. 3. Born at Thorntown, he lived in the Lebanon area until coming to Lafayette when he was 14. His marriage was in 1946, in Lafayette, to Laverne M. Opperman, and she survives.

Mr. Stevens had worked as a laborer for the Lafayette Street Department for 35 years, retiring in 1981. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in France and England. He was a member of American Legion Post 492, 40&8, and VFW Post 1154.

Surviving with his widow are four sons, Harold E. Stevens, Jr., David L. Stevens, Edward H. Stevens, all of Lafayette, and Raymond D. Stevens of Logansport; six brothers, Paul Stevens, Don Stevens, both of Delphi, Carl Stevens of Lafayette, Charles Stevens of Indianapolis, Lorenzo Stevens of Australia, and Art Stevens of Kentucky; five sisters, Mrs. Pauline Kyees, Mrs. Martha Smith, Mrs. Marilyn Jackson, all of Lafayette, Mrs. Arlene Gipson of Delphi, and Mrs. Doris Sellers of Indianapolis.
