JONESPORT - Merton Almer Garnett, 90, passed away September 25, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Jonesport June 20, 1924 the son of the late Clarence P. Sr. and Helen A. (Smith) Garnett.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic on the front lines during WWII in the European Theater where he received the Bronze Star. He enjoyed working in his blueberry fields, and also worked in construction. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of Jonesport Masonic Lodge #188, a life member of the V.F.W. And a member of Rogers-Worcester American Legion Post #108 of Jonesport.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years Lucille (Bowden) Garnett; a son Delwyn Cummings of Haverhill, MA; two grandchildren Richard Cummings and Amy Casciano; great-grandchildren Carson, Sophia, and Logan; four brothers- William and wife Margarette, Robert and wife Adelaide, Neil and wife Pauline, and Clarence and wife Beverly; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son Lloyd Cummings Jr; and four sisters - Fern Alley, Hazel Noerr, Leona White, and Greta Thebeau.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Community of Christ Church, Jonesport with Rev. George Woodward officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Merton's memory may be made to the Bayview Cemetery Society 1561 Masons Bay Road, Jonesport,ME 04649.
