George L. Jones, Executive Producer for Fidelity Channel #6 and lifetime resident of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on July 30, 2005, at the age of 51 years.
George was born on October 1, 1953, in Belleville, Illinois to Ernest and Opal (nee Davidson) Jones. Because of his interest in music and video, he made his career choice in Radio and TV at KTUI a natural fit. His positive attitude was contagious to all who had the privilege of being around him. George loved to give and help those he knew and those who crossed his path. He was a friend of the local school students and donated countless hours through KTUI in PSA's to help the local school fundraisers. Privately, he enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, listening to music, and playing with his grandchildren.
Beloved by the television media students at East Central College in Rolla, George was the founder in 2003 of the magazine type television show, Cognitive Workout" where he served as the Executive Producer until his death. Working with the students always made him laugh and he gave his wisdom to them in whatever they wanted to learn, not only television production, but life in general.
George is survived by his son, Lance Oldham, two brothers, Robert Jones of Rolla, and Jim Jones and wife, Doll of Sullivan, one sister, Carolyn Roberts and husband, Ronnie of Sullivan, one grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Opal Jones, and three brothers, Henry Richard, Delbert and Ivan Jones.
Funeral services for George L. Jones were conducted on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Bent officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to HALO Animal Shelter in the name of George Jones are suggested by the family.
CAUSE OF DEATH: George had a massive heart attack mowing his lawn on a hot summer afternoon. There were no signs of heart problems from his friends or relatives. Though he was by all measures pronounced dead at the scene, the parametics revived him and sent him on to St. Louis, he passed peacefully later that evening.
