John H. Felter, a civil war veteran died very suddenly at his home in Paw Paw on Sunday evening, September 22nd, 1918. He was born in Onondago County, New York on November 3rd, 1847, and when quite young moved with his people to Etna Green Koscinsco County, Indiana. After the outbreak of the civil war when under age, he enlisted in the 19th, Indiana regiment, and after a few months his father received his release. Later he enlisted in the 152nd, Indiana regiment, and at the close of the war he returned to Etna Green and on January 17th, 1873 he was married to Mahala Hazen, who survives him.
In 1880 they moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin, and in 1909 to Paw Paw, Michigan where he died. He leaves to mourn him, besides his widow, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Wyman of Napanee, Indiana and Mrs. William Tyler of Etna Green, Indiana and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Hughes, of Bismark, N.D.
The funeral services were held at his late home, conducted by Rev. Arthur Trott, and the burial was in Prospect Hill cemetery.
