Martin J. Ezzyk, 57, of Berwick passed away unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at the Berwick Hospital Center Emergency Room.

He was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Berwick, a son to Mary (Sabanos) Ezzyk and her husband, the late Joseph Ezzyk.

A graduate of Central Columbia High School, Marty worked for years as a groundskeeper at the Rosemont Cemeteries in Bloomsburg. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and country music and belonged to the Berwick Ukrainian Club and Bethany United Methodist Church. Marty was a kind and loving husband, father, son, and friend to all. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

As well as his mother, Marty is survived by his loving wife, the former Ellen Belles, with whom he recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary; three sons: Joseph and his wife, Melanie, Jared and James Ezzyk, all of Berwick; a daughter, Rebecca Ezzyk of New Hampshire; grandchildren: Lantzer and Joseph Ezzyk and Alexzander Sprague; and three brothers: David, Rick and his wife, Jeannie, and Randy and his wife, Stacey, all of Berwick.

Preceding Martin in death were his father, Joseph, and grandchildren, Kristabell and Sam Sprague.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 116 Summerhill Ave., Berwick. His pastor, Dwayne Krebs, will serve as the officiant.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to Bethany United Methodist Church or donations to help pay for services be sent to the funeral home.
