age 80
At this point in time (2017), it will be difficult to ascertain her place of birth. Vermont was not a state until 1777 and prior to that date several states claimed "ownership." One must look to the history of Vermont during the colonial time period to try and find out who her parents were and where they came from. Was he part of the British that occupied the area? Or was he a settler from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, or New York? Until this can be ascertained, her place of birth and parentage will remain a mystery. It may be possible that she was born in Dummerston because in most cases a marriage took place in the parish of the bride rather than the groom's.
On December 26, 1753, the town was chartered as a New Hampshire grant and renamed Fulham by Governor Benning Wentworth. But when the grant was renegotiated, it reverted to Dummerston. Is it possible her father was part of this town at that period of time? Which may mean she could have been born in New Hampshire?
She married Joseph Joy on March 11, 1819 in Dummerston.

SPOUSE: Lucinda Davenport
The tombstone says death occurred February 2, 1853; however, in the vital records of Vermont there are two separate cards reporting her death. The first records the following:
Name of Deceased: Joy, Lucinda
Age: 80
Name of Husband: Joseph
Date of Death: Dec 2 1853
Name of Cemetery: D. Center
Adin F. Meiller, Town Clerk Dummerston
There was a second card which conveys no information other than her name and date of death which was recorded as February 2, 1853. There is no town clerk name on the card either nor where the death occurred. Therefore, it is believed that the one which is showing the Dec 2, 1853 date is the more correct entry despite what the tombstone marker indicates.
In the drop down menu above, there are three choices: Dummerston Center, East Dummerston and West Dummerston. Because the cemetery is located in Dummerston Center today, that was the choice made. Whether there were three sections to Dummerston in 1853 is, at present, unknown to this researcher.
The 1850 census only refers to Dummerston as the place of enumeration. It states:
CENSUS: 1850 Census Dummerston, Windham, Vermont, 277/297 Lucinda Joy, age 76, born VT.
