Meshack next married Minnie Louise McDaniel, daughter of John McDaniel and Mary Elizabeth Newman, on 1 Jan 1890 in Mississippi.
Meshack died of blood poisoning from an injury received when a log rolled over his foot while he was employed by Brooks Scanlon Lumber Company in Kentwood, Louisiana. At the time of his death, "Shack" had almost completed a new home for his family in Chatawa, Mississippi. After his death Minnie and their children moved into it.
