Loren Sowers was one of eight children born to Ora Sowers (1905-1978) and Stella Catherine Garrison (1908-1970). Although raised in Kansas, he eventually came to live in Texas.

While living in Texas, Loren met Julia Earl Sebok (1941-1973); they were married in 1961 in Reno, Washoe Co., Nevada. Loren and Julia had two daughters together: Pamela and Debra.

On the 28 February 1963, Loren enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served during the Vietnam War. He was discharged on the 9 May 1968 at the rank of Sergeant, and went to work as a mechanic. Even before his discharge, Loren and his family had moved to Florida, before returning to Texas. Soon after the birth of their second child, Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She passed away on the 10 June 1973 in Houston, Harris Co., Texas; and was buried next to her father in Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountz, Hardin Co., Texas.

On the 2 August 1974, Loren married Iris Jeanette "Jan" (Sheddan) Kelso (1935-), the widow of Andrew Brooks Kelso (1924-1973), in Harris Co., Texas. Their marriage, however, came to an end by 1991.

Loren passed away on the 13 May 1998 in Houston, Harris Co., Texas. Because of his military service, he was buried in Houston National Cemetery. He was survived by his ex-wife, both of his daughters, a son-in-law, and one grandchild.
