WEST CONCORD -- The funeral for Joseph Herman "Joe" Hartman will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in West Concord, with the Rev. James Seitz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hartman, 87, of West Concord, a retired elevator employee, died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Born March 29, 1914, in Crookston, Minn., he moved to Wilmont with his family as a young child, attended St. Killian's Catholic School and then farmed with his family on the family farm. From November 1941 to July 1945, he served in the Army, including duty in New Guinea. On Jan. 7, 1945, he married Adeline Middendorff at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. They farmed in rural Wilmont for a number of years, and he then worked at the Wilmont Elevator. After moving to West Concord in 1970, he was employed at Parvena Elevator in Faribault until his retirement in 1980. He was a former member of St. Killian's and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic churches in Wilmont, and was a current member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in West Concord, where he taught CCD classes for a time and served as an usher, reader, Eucharist minister and as a member of the church cemetery board. Mr. Hartman was a life member of the Kenyon VFW and West Concord American Legion and a 50-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.
