--He earned his B.A. in history and political science from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1950. He also attended law school at UNC, later transferring to study in a judge's law office.
--Occupation: Attorney. He was proud to have been recognized on Oct. 18, 2007 as a member of the NC State Bar for 50 years.
--He married Catherine Bost, to whom he was devoted throughout their 61 year marriage. They were blessed with 2 children: Catherine and Joseph, Jr. 2 grandchildren.
