Florence Murphy Narvil, age 88, of Gainesville passed away late Tuesday at New Horizons following an extended illness.

She was the widow of the late Jesse Carlton Narvil Jr., to whom she was married for 56 years.

She was the eldest daughter of the late William Pickett and Eliza Skelton Murphy of the Mountain Creek community in Jackson County. During World War II, she began working for Chicopee Manufacturing Co. and continued to work there until the 1970s. She was a former member of Mountain Creek, Oak Grove and Chicopee Baptist churches.

Mrs. Narvil is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Carlton Narvil, Chestnut Mountain; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Carlton Narvil, McDonough, Ms. Joy Narvil Crump, Calhoun, and Mr. and Mrs. Jason Conrad Narvil, Sardis; great-grandchildren, Jasper Carlton Narvil, Jaya Sona Narvil, Madeline Joy Crump, Ethan Davis Crump, Madison Taylor Narvil, Maggie Grace Narvil and Molly Sophia Narvil; brothers, Woodrow, Melvin, and Edward Murphy, all of Pendergrass; sisters, Clara Thomas, Bartow, Buna Buffington, Gainesville, and Lilly Evans, Pendergrass; and several nieces and nephews.

She is remembered in particular by her grandchildren as a kind and caring grandmother, always helpful when help was needed, whose patience was often tested but never exhausted.
