Lewis Kinard Smoak, Jr., age 77, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 peacefully at his home in Chapin, South Carolina after a lengthy illness.

Born October 11, 1936 in Palatka, Florida, he was the son of the late Lewis Kinard Smoak, Sr. and Hazel Carter Smoak of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Lewis graduated from Orangeburg High School. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps expecting to see the world, but laughed as he was stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina for the duration of his service to the Corps.

He retired from State Farm Insurance after 41 years, most of those years in Charleston, South Carolina. He moved to Chapin, South Carolina in 2005.

Throughout his years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting with his friends and sustained a great appreciation for history and reading. He was a very talented man who loved to build. He also loved having a beautiful yard and worked hard at doing just that.

Lewis was a kind, generous and loving person. He is survived by his adoring and devoted wife, Marcia Ann Smoak and her daughter, Bobbi Jean Blair; his children, Doug Smoak (Leslie) of Helper, Utah, Deborah Bobo (Jim) of Charleston, SC, Donna Patterson (Pat) of Macon, GA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lewis was cared for by three wonderful women, Monica Chapman, Peggy Barnes and Dianna Paige. Many loving thanks to them and to Heartstrings Hospice for his continual care.

There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date.
