Born in Tiefenellern, Bavaria, the son of Wolfgang Blazier (said to be of French descent) and Kunigunda Wendel. Came to the U.S. in the 1840s, married Barbara Boehm in New York City. Lived briefly in Woodbridge, New Jersey, then came to Illinois. Settled in Hampshire, Illinois by 1850, where he farmed in Section 17. Member of Hampshire's German Evangelical Church. After Barbara's death, married Elizabeth Karl Maderer, a widow, becoming stepfather to her two young sons, Charles and George.
