HARRY HAMMETT SUCCUMBS HERE EARLY THIS A. M.

Local Man Passes Following Illness of Several Months.

(From Wednesday's Daily)

Although not unexpected, the death of Harry J. Hammett, 53 year old local traveling man died at his home here at 4:55 o'clock this morning following an illness of several months, came as a distinct shock to a large circle of friends.

Mr. Hammett had been in ill health for sometime, and during the past two weeks had been confined to his bed. He was born in Blackville, South Carolina and when a young man came to Ruston where he was employed by the local railroad office. During the past fifteen y ears he has been employed as a traveling salesman, and for the past five years has been connected with Monroe Automobile Supply Company.

Early in life Mr. Hammett joined the Methodist Church of which he remained a member until his death. He was married to Miss Jessie Lewis, daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. Billy Lewis, and sister of W. J. Lewis, prominent local merchant and to this union were born three children, all of whom survive him, and were at his bedside when the end came. They are Mrs. R. L. Brunsenhan of Sonora, Texas; Harry J. Jr., and Miss Lillian Hammett, both of Ruston.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the family home, with Reverend H. N. Johnson, pastor of the Trinity Methodist church, in charge. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery under the direction of B. F. McLure, local undertaking company.

Besides the widow and children, Mr. Hammett is survived by his mother, Mrs. B. J. Hammett of Columbia, South Carolina; a sister, Mrs. J. C. Johnson of Columbia; and three brothers, W. D. Hammett of Davenport, Iowa; N. T. Hammett of Columbia, South Carolina and Dr. B. J. Hammett, Jr., of Allendale, South Carolina.

The deceased was also a member of the local Masonic lodge.
