GEORGE W. BOOHER

George W. Booher died at his home in Piffard Friday morning last, following the stroke of paralysis which he suffered in this village Monday evening, Dec. 12th, and mention of which was made in the Democrat last week. Mr. Booher was taken to his home on Tuesday morning in an unconscious condition, and in which condition he remained until the time of his death. There probably was no business man in Livingston county better known or more highly esteemed than was George W. Booher. He was born in the town of Groveland and all his life had bean passed in this county, where he has followed various occupations. For a number of years he has been engaged in the mercantile business, at Piffard in the town of York and where he enjoyed a large patronage. Prior to his engagement in business at Piffard he was a resident for a number of years in the town of Geneseo, and he seemed almost like one of our citizens. Socially, Mr. Booher was a good man to meet, genial, good natured, always jolly and fall of fun, he made a friend of everyone with whom he came in contact, and his friendship was of the lasting quality so rarely found. He was a man always ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress, free to give to every worthy cause, and was held in the highest regard by those who knew him best. Politically, Mr. Booher was a staunch Democrat, and ha gave liberally of his time and money in the support of Democratic principles. A Democratic political gathering in Livingston county did not seem to be complete without the presence of George W. Booher. He was a wise counselor, always to be depended upon, and no man ever dated to accuse him of voting anything but the straight Democratic ticket. Mr. Booher was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of this village, and prominent in its affairs, and served as district deputy grand master of Livingston district. He recently attended the sixtieth anniversary of the Canaeraga lodge at Dansville, and the Dansville Advertiser referred Io him as "one of the jolliest of the visiting brothers." His death will be mourned by a large number of true friends. He leaves as immediate relatives, a wife and one daughter, besides several brothers and other relatives, and all of whom will have the sympathy of the people in this community in their affliction. The funeral, which was held in Piffard Sunday last, was hugely attended, the Odd Fellows of this village attending in a body.
