Funeral Is Attended By Hundreds:
Flags on public buildings hung at half staff and business houses and professional offices throughout the city closed their doors Monday afternoon in fitting tribute to the passing of Dr. J. S. Dr. Lancaster died from pneumonia at Santa Fe Hospital in Los Angeles at 5:30 a. m. Saturday morning, Nov. 5, at the age of 55. He died just one year after his life long friend and associate, Dr. George P. Shidler , passed away, Sept. 11, 1937. From 1921-1923, he was the first public health officer for Torrance, and was director of the Chamber of Commerce from 1922-1931. Dr. Lancaster was a close friend of Jared Sidney Torrance, founder of this city, and suggested the building of Torrance Memorial Hospital, which was built in 1925.
