Arthur Oneal Rogers, age 88, of Blun passed away on March 27, 2014 at the Emanuel County Medical Center in Swainsboro. He was born on April 11, 1925 in Bulloch County, Georgia, the son of the late John Kelly Rogers and Ruth Marie McCorkle. His brothers, William Melvin and John Kelly, Jr. and his sisters, Alva Lee Anderson and Para Zona Studzinski preceded him in death.
Mr. Rogers served his country with distinction in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard three different ships in the Pacific Theater of operations, the USS Mount Olympus, the Marathon and LST-120. After the war, he eventually settled in Emanuel County on the farm of his wife’s family at Blun where he worked as a farmer, service station operator in Swainsboro and later, a bus driver for the Emanuel County School System.
Mr. Rogers was devoted to his family and serving the Lord. He was an avid hunter and fisherman spending many hours with family members and friends in the woods and waters of South Georgia. He was a long-time active member of the Summertown Baptist Church where he faithfully served the Lord as a deacon and leader in many other capacities.
Friends may visit the family at Summertown Baptist Church from 1 to 2:45 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Funeral services will follow beginning at 3pm.
Interment will follow at the Wiggins Family Cemetery in Blun.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in his memory to Summertown Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1011, Swainsboro, GA 30401. Tomlinson Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
