Dorothy Lee Thompson
February 1, 1932 - September 13, 2014

Dorothy Lee (Kyle) Thompson, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday September 13, 2014 in La Porte, Texas. She was born February 1, 1932 in Magnet, Texas to William and Mary Kyle. She was raised and attended school in Austin, Texas.

In May 1950 she married Horace Thompson and began the life of a military wife. Through the military, they lived in various locations in and outside the United States, finally settling in Titusville, Florida where she lived for 45 years.

Dorothy was employed for 34 years with McDonnell Douglas, first in California and then transferring to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Space exploration was very important to her as she witnessed firsthand the Apollo Program and its transition to the Shuttle Program. She was there when man went to and successfully stepped on the moon and was very vocal about the space program continuing.

During her retired years, she loved spending time with family, playing Bingo, and even riding her own Harley Davidson motorcycle. She was a member of and supported the local Veteran’s Posts in the Titusville area. Her last year was spent in her home state of Texas, a place she loved very much, and back amongst her extended family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Horace Thompson, son Travis Neal Thompson, parents William and Mary Kyle, sisters Elizabeth Reynolds, Rachel McCaslin, Pearl Weaver, Mary (Tiny) Canady and brothers William Kyle, Jr. and Harvey Kyle.

She is survived by her son, Travis Tod Thompson; granddaughter, Tonya Thompson, both of Titusville, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Austin Memorial Park in Austin Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home, Austin Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a contribution to your local Hospice group or a charity of your choice in memory of Dorothy.
