Helen Manning Hunter
Helen Manning Hunter, professor emeritus of economics and Mary Hale Chase professor emeritus of the social sciences at Bryn Mawr College, died Thursday October 17th at The Quadrangle in Haverford, Pennsylvania. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Hunter was the daughter of Frederick Johnson Manning, history professor at Swarthmore and Helen Taft Manning, history professor and dean at Bryn Mawr. Mrs Hunter's grandfather, William Howard Taft, was the 27th President and the 10th Chief Justice of the United States. Helen Manning graduated from the Putney School and received her B.A. from Smith College in 1943. In 1945 she married Holland Hunter, professor of Economics at Haverford College. After obtaining her PhD from Radcliffe, Mrs. Hunter taught economics at Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr and directed summer programs at Haverford.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by her husband Holland Hunter, her children Timothy Hunter, Christine Hunter, and Ann Hunter, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday November 2nd at 11 am at St. Mary's Church in Ardmore followed by interment at the Haverford Friends Meeting.
