Vernon Grein was born on March 24, 1922, in the Lakefield, Minnesota, the son of Henry J.and Lily Vestweber Grein. He was baptized on April 23, 1922, and confirmed on April 5, 1936, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church by pastor Adolph Paul. Vernon attended rural school and Immanuel Christian day school. He was active in the youth work, taught Sunday school and was floor manager of the Lakefield Roller Rink. On Dec. 29, 1946, he married Margaret Schroeder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer, Iowa. In 1951 he was diagnosed and found to be suffering from Muscular Dystrophy. He continued farming with the help of his children until his illness forced him into a wheelchair. In 1970 he began Grein income tax service. He also kept books for the Jackson D. H. I. A. and the Immanuel hot lunch program for many years. In the last year, he started a clock and watch repair hobby. Mr. Green passed away at the Lakefield municipal hospital on Sunday afternoon, April 18, 1976, at the age of 54. Survivors include his wife Margaret, Lakefield; His parents, two infant children, Paul and Robert, and one brother, Arnold, who died in the service, preceded him in death.
