After graduating from FSU he returned to Georgia Military teaching biology and physics and coaching the baseball team and served as assistant football coach. The money was too much to turn down and he moved to New York City working with the Iron Worker Union building the World Trade Center.

After the WTC was complete he returned to Georgia and became an official with the International Iron Workers Union. He successfully invested in real estate. His love for athletics became his focus as a recruiter for Florida State University Athletic Program. Paul was often found at high school football and baseball games searching for talent for his beloved FSU Seminoles.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erby and Evelyn Gordon Pennington and a step daughter Karen Archer Ivey.

Survivors include his wife Faye O’Quinn Archer Pennington of Milledgeville, a step daughter Kathy Archer (Russell) Sheppard of Sandersville, and a brother Gary (Bonnie) Pennington of Milledgeville, step grandchildren, Emily Ivey Lingold (Blanton), Anna Sheppard Deal (Chris), Ross Sheppard and Michelle Ivey, two step great grandchildren, Chloe Deal and Caroline Deal, nieces, nephews, and several cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Deepstep United Methodist Church.
