Arthur F. Ambrose, 88, of Springfield passed away peacefully Saturday, September 06, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home. Arthur, son of the late Robert and Mabel (Duclos) Ambrose was born in Springfield on October 28, 1925. Raised in Springfield he graduated from Cathedral High School. Arthur was employed Insurance Agent and Debit Man for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 40 years and retired in 1985. Arthur served his country with United States Navy during WWII. He was a charter member of the VFW in Springfield, a member of the Winchester Square Sports Reunion Committee, and an avid golfer and played on the Springfield Police Golf League. In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Carlene M. (Farrows) Ambrose son, Springfield Patrolman Kevin E. Ambrose, his brothers, James, Jack, and Robert Ambrose, and his sisters, Jean Tessicini and Eleanor Garwacki. He is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Sheperd and her husband Richard of Longmeadow and Karen E. Levesque and her husband Dr. Norman of Springfield; a son, Martin S. Ambrose and his wife Anne of Wilbraham; a daughter-in-law, Carla J. Ambrose of Wilbraham; six grandchildren, Julie Ciolino, Jodi Moriarty, Kevin Illig, Sean Illig, Krista Ambrose, Kyle Ambrose; 8 great grandchildren, Salvatore, Stephen, Michael, Autumn, Kadence, Victoria, Megan, and Shawn; along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours for Arthur will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampsons Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Friends are asked to meet on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Arthur at 10 a.m. Rites of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Arthurs memory may be made to Miami Childrens Health Foundation, 3100 S.W. 62nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33155 and or to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
