LINGOLD FUNERAL SET FOR BALDWIN:Farmer Dies in Clinton Road Accident; Crooms in Fairly Good Condition:
The body of Arrie Lingold, 50 year old farmer of near Milledgeville, fatally injured in an accident on the Clinton road shortly brfore noon yesterday, was carried back to Milledgeville yesterday afternoon for funeral services.
Fred Crooms, 43, of Milledgeville who suffered a compound fracture of the left leg, was reported in fairly good condition at the Macon hospital where he was carried for treatment.
Both men were brought to the Macon Hospital, but Mr. Lingold was pronounced dead when he reached the hospital in an ambulance .
The accident occured as a Ford V-8 truck heavily loaded with cotton bales, ran off the road into a ditch while en route to Macon it was said. The machine was about ten miles from the city when the accident occured.
Several other persons on the truck were uninjured and the truck continued its way into the city after it had been dragged from the ditch it was learned.
A.T. Swan, Scottsboro Merchant, employer of Mr. Lingold and owner of the truck said that Mr. Crooms had been a patient at the Milledgeville State Hospital for several years but had been dismissed from the institution a short while ago and thumbed a ride on the truck.
Two sons of Mr. Lingold, Royce Lingold and Clemon Lingold were on the truck when the accident occured .
My father was standing on the running board, Clemon Lingold declared.
Fred Crooms also was standing up. The truck left the road and ran down an embankment, throwing my father and Crooms to the ground.
At first we did not think my father was seriously hurt because if didn't seem like a fall like that would have killed someone.
The truck was driven by a Negro employee of Mr. Swan, Ponto Grantland who was taken to Milledgeville for a medical examination. He was found to be unhurt according to word received here.
No explanation as to how the heavily loaded truck left the highway was given here. It ran down an embankment at from three to four feet high. The Machine did not turn over.
Mr. Lingold made his home in the Scottsboro community near
Milledgeville. He had lived in Baldwin for many years.
Survivors include his wife Carrie Belle Quinn Lingold, four sons, Royce Lingold, Clemon Lingold, Leonard Lingold and A.W. Lingold, three daughters, Gladys, Dena and Eva Lingold.
