Mrs. Nettie Ammons Myers 97, of 108 W. George Street, Carmichaels, one of Greene County's oldest and most widely known citizens, died at her residence at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 1963, after a lingering illness. She has been confined to a bed for six years. Mrs Myers has lived at the same residence where she and her husband, Lewis, went to housekeeping some 70 years ago. She is the second oldest resident of Carmichaels and could, until recently, recall with pinpoint accuracy various stories about Carmichaels and the many generations of friends and neighbors who knew her. She was the last of seven children born to the late Abraham and Rebecca Wade Ammons, of near Mt. Morris. She and her husband were married only nine years until his death in 1902. Mrs. Myers has one of the longest attendance records at the Carmichaels Presbyterian Church having joined in 1894 and served as church organist for many years. Also a member of the Lady Penn Rebekah Lodge 492, Carmihahels. She was born January 10, 1866 at Mt. Morris. Surviving are a son, Perry A. Myers and one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Roseberry, both living at home. Also surviving are a granddaughter whom Mrs. Myers raised, Lucille, wife of W. G. Fleissner of Tacoma, Wash, and two great-grandchildren, Dan and Lea. One son, Lewis Douglas, died in 1909 at the age of seven.
