Lillian W. Horton, 96, of Nichols passed away peacefully on Friday morning, September 10, 2010. Lillian was born on August 31, 1914 in Willawanna, Pa., a daughter of the late William and Lilly E. (Gray) Wilcox. Lillian was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church and at one time, was employed by the Tioga Central School District in the cafeteria. Many will remember Lillian for she opened her home and heart to care for many area children. She enjoyed handcrafting plastic canvas, crocheting and spending time with her dogs Peanut and Toodles. Lillian is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cora Arnold of Nichols; her grandson and his wife, who lovingly cared for Lillian, Ray J. and Laurie Arnold of Endicott; granddaughter Laura Turner of New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley, Adam, Andrew, Amy Jo, Kristopher, Megan, Mikayla, and Derrick. Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Lillian was predeceased by her husband’s Ray James Arnold, Norman L. Horton; son Sheridan “Ray” Arnold; daughter Joyce Gevert; and siblings, William, Robert, Eugene, Marie, Elmer, Gertrude, Pearl, Jennie, Mae, Fred, Blanche and Alice. Funeral services and a celebration of Lillian’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at 4 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with her pastor, Dan Martin, officiating. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
