Mary Butler Rector was born in Marion, State of Virginia, in the year 1780. She came to California in 1857 with her son William A. Rector. During a life of nearly one hundred years, she enjoyed uninterrupted good health. She married John Josiah Rector and was the grandmother to the wife of Henry Frances. She was the mother of nine children. Her life was terminated by sickness, but Nature had become worn out, and this old lady passed away quietly as if she were falling asleep. She died at Old Creek at the age of 92 yrs. old. The friends of the deceased return their sincere thanks to the Rev. A. B. Spoons for his kind and faithful services and attendance during the funeral.
