When her mother died in 1931, Lolita was taken in and raised by Lena Massey Cagle and Leroy "Roy" Henderson Cagle.

Mrs. Lolita Higdon, 87, a resident of Country Brook Nursing Center of Brookhaven, passed away there on September 10, 2014. She was born in Copiah County on May 5, 1927 to the late Willie Newman and Minnie Mae Thedford Newman.

Mrs. Higdon was a retired LPN having worked at Kings Daughters Hospital and Silver Cross Nursing Home for over 30 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. After her retirement she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 894 Natchez drive location. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery, Brookhaven.

Visitation will be Friday, September 12, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Brookhaven Funeral Home.

Mrs. Higdon is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank Newman and Virgil Newman; and her sister, Joy Newman Sebro.

Mrs. Higdon is survived by her husband of 66 years, George F. Higdon of Brookhaven; two sons, George L. Higdon of Brookhaven and Burrell Higdon and his wife Kim of Humble, TX; her grandchildren, James Higdon, Michelle Higdon, both of Greenville, SC and Daniel Higdon of Humble, TX; her brother, James Newman of Missouri; her sister, Willene Hinkin of Kansas City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
