Mr. Stanford L. "Squash" Smith, 89, of Valley, AL died Sunday, 18 May 2003 at George H Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, AL.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, 21 May 2003 at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, AL with Rev Gene Cagle officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Marion W. Smith; his son, Phillip "Duke" (Gail) Smith of Opelika, AL; three grandchildren, Marnie (Scotty) Sherrer, Paige (Paul) Moeller and Jason (Melissa) Barnett; and four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Sherrer, Zach Sherrer, Payton Moeller and Paxton Moeller.
Born 3 Mar 1914 in Penton, AL, Mr. Smith was a retired employee of West Point Stevens Shawmut Mill and had worked for three-and-a-half years at the Bob Harding School in Shawmut. He was a member of Shawmut United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. He was the son of the late Emma Waters Smith and Wiley Smith.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Shawmut United Methodist Church in his memory.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 20 May 2003 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, AL.
