Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward, NE. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society; Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation; or the St. Edward Volunteer Fire Department.

Ronald G. Eckland, 74, of Cumming, Georgia, died on August 30, 2014. Formerly of St. Edward and Fullerton, Nebraska, Mr. Eckland was born on September 27, 1939 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Oscar and Mary (Carter) Eckland. He attended elementary school and high school in St. Edward and graduated in 1957.

After graduation, Mr. Eckland worked for Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus for three years. On July 9, 1960, he married Jan Stevens in Las Cruces, New Mexico. To this union, two children were born, Pamela and Ron. Mr. Eckland was enlisted in the Army from 1960 to 1962, spending fourteen months in Korea. After the Army, Mr. Eckland returned to work at Behlen Manufacturing for two years and then began working for Farmers Co-op in St. Edward from 1964 to 1971. He accepted a position as a lineman with Loup Public Power District in Fullerton in 1971 and the family relocated to Fullerton. He worked for Loup Public Power District for 28 years and retired in October 1999. Upon retirement, Ron and Jan relocated to Cumming, Georgia to be close to their children. Mr. Eckland enjoyed horses; all outdoor activities; and spending time with his family.

Mr. Eckland is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter, Pamela (Robert) Duer of Cumming, Georgia; son, Ron Eckland of Cumming, Georgia; granddaughter, Tara (Brett) Linton of Dawsonville, Georgia; sister, Lee Cressman of Mercer Island, Washington; brothers, Bob Eckland of St. Edward and Larry Eckland of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Eckland and Mary Anderson; brother, Richard Anderson; niece, Darci Anderson; father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Clarisa Stevens; and brother-in-law, Marvin Stevens.
