Dean was in a serious car accident about 1978-79 (probably in King County, Washington). He was on a freeway off-ramp. A semi truck was stalled was on the side of the road, without his lights on. Dean's car went right under the truck. The entire top of his car was ripped off. Dean broke his jaw and cut off the tip of his tongue. He was recovering in the hospital for awhile. He was on strong pain medication afterwards.
