Due to her intervention her daughter Jeanne was allowed to return to her husbands side in 1315. Mathilde held the young King John I during his christening who died soon after that. She was suspected to be responsible for his death, especially because Jeanne became queen due to his death. She founded several abbeys like the Charteuse de Gosnay and the Poor Clares in St-Omer.
