Eugene Borders "Bud" Daniel, 89, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida passed away on August 20th, 2014. A native of Athens, GA, he was the son of the late Ethel (Graham) and William Russell Daniel. He was preceded in death by his brothers Graham Foster Daniel and William Russell "Billy" Daniel, and his first wife Elaine (Akin) Daniel. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Bud returned to Athens where he was a partner in the Russell Daniel Irrigation Co. Whether at the lake or ocean, Bud loved being close to the water. He enjoyed taking trips on his cabin cruiser and was a founder and commodore of the Athens Boat Club on Lake Lanier in Dawsonville, Ga. As an avid golfer, he was a charter member of Athens Country Club, a lifelong member of the Rotary and Elks clubs, and a member of Central Presbyterian church. An unwavering Bulldog his entire life, Bud attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was president of the UGA Touchdown Club, "bringing recreation and entertainment to new heights" during his tenure.In 1993, Bud married Shirley Tighe Barrett. Their fun loving personalities and sense of adventure brought them together. They spent many happy years traveling the world while enjoying each other's companionship. His survivors include his wife Shirley Barrett Daniel, daughter Frances (George) Bond, daughter Christy (Mark) Berding, and son John (Susan) Barrett, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.With his pleasing personality and kind heart, Bud was loved by everyone he met. He had a great zest for life, never met a piece of chocolate he didn't like, and was always game for anything. In that spirit, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September, 14th at 3PM at the Russell Daniel Home Place, 1800 Crescent Lane, Athens GA 30607 -
