Lieutenant Thomas Dix Houston of Natural Bridge, Virginia, was imprisoned at Johnson Island, Sandusky, Ohio, after the Battle of Gettysburg. He had participated in the Pickett's charge and had fallen amidst the enemies guns at the crest of Cemetery Ridge. He recuperated in hospitals at Gettysburg and Baltimore.
